Baseline Land Conditions
Before the project began, this land was largely barren and vulnerable to the effects of prolonged drought. Limited vegetation meant reduced grazing opportunities for livestock and increased challenges for local communities that depend on livestock for their livelihoods. The site presented an opportunity to explore sustainable solutions for restoring productivity and improving drought resilience.
Restored and Active Trial Plot
Today, the pilot plot is demonstrating the potential of drought-resistant and indigenous grass species to thrive in challenging conditions. Through careful planning, fencing, and ongoing trials, the site has been transformed into a living research area that supports our flagship fodder program. The project is helping identify sustainable grazing solutions while building knowledge that can benefit communities across the region.
Looking Ahead
This pilot project represents an important step toward creating sustainable, climate-resilient solutions for livestock farmers. By combining scientific field trials with local knowledge, we are identifying the grasses and plant species best suited to the region's conditions. The insights gained from this work will help guide future restoration efforts, strengthen fodder security during drought, and support more resilient communities for generations to come.
